The combined economic power of the region's Chemical and Process industry companies and their importance to North East England cannot be over emphasised. They generate in excess of £10bn of sales and account for 30% of the regions industrial base, employing abut 40,000 people directly and impacting indirectly on the income of a further 280,000.

North East Process Industries Cluster (NEPIC): From its inception NEPIC has had a presence at RTC North's Sunderland office. The cluster represents 500 Pharmaceutical, Biotechnology, Speciality, Polymer & Rubber, Petrochemical & Commodity Chemical companies based in North East England. Furthermore, there are at least an equal number of companies in the supply chain of these industries based in this region making this a major economic Cluster.
NEPIC aims to create more jobs, act as a catalyst for new businesses and enable this sector's supply chain to be more visible. Some of the world's best performing process facilities are based in the North East, and their level of performance is made possible and sustainable through an excellent supply chain.

Process Industry Sector for Manufacturing Excellence (Picme): Picme was established through collaboration between the and several trade associations to improve the competitiveness and sustainability of UK process manufacturing industry.
