Education / enterprise

Services in education and enterprise are designed to promote an enterprise culture and are mainly targeted at young people in full-time education. Provision is also made for people of various age groups living in disadvantaged or remote communities. 

Promotion of Science –  A continuous programme with schools and colleges to arrest the decline in numbers of young people choosing STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering and mathematics).  Typical activities include industry visits for teachers, classroom based workshops and the use of business mentors.

Enterprise in Schools – Activities to support the enterprise curriculum in schools. Includes management of public support programmes, an annual competition linking technology with social themes such as crime, fashion and transport and specific projects to stimulate interest in the local economy and environment.

Community Enterprise – Initiatives to support community enterprises and link them to established industry. Training workshops organised through numerous local community groups to support young people. Coaching of potential ‘future entrepreneurs’ using business simulation tools.

Incubation and Start-up – Internal provision of workspace and business support (marketing, technology and finance) to a small number of organisations co-located with RTC North.  External support to start-up companies making use of a wide variety of business games, financial planning and simulation tools.
